This poor module has really sweat it out over the years. If you enable the track_views parameter on your site and one of your posts gets a Digg, you crash your site. Why? MySQL insert statements, which is what track_views causes EE to do, lock your database. Stack up enough of them and you freeze a perfectly good high traffic principal client site. Go find a new job. Your client has quit you.
Tracker tracks hits in a more efficient way. It also lets you track the really interesting traffic patterns, like when a long lost blog post all of a sudden gets a Digg. You posted it 2 years ago? But now it’s getting hammered? It should bubble up to the top of the most hits for the week right? That’s what Tracker does.
